“There’s something different about Jordy” - Pharrell Williams
Jordy Searcy is a fresh new voice on the American touring scene. With just one EP release under his belt in February 2018, 25-year-old Jordy has already booked & played over 500 shows across the country with his band.
Jordy’s sound has been described as “organic songwriter pop”. Catchy choruses & strong lyrical hooks laid over intricate organic arrangements make up the sound that is packing out venues across the US. Jordy’s music has been frequently compared to artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Vance Joy, Jeff Buckley, and Ed Sheeran.
Jordy is celebrated for his live show, (known for singing/looping into his guitar pickup, silencing a venue by playing a few songs unplugged, world-class guitar & vocal chops, crowd pleasing stage banter, ETC) but his greatest asset is his songwriting. Jordy’s 2018 EP Dark In The City was a critical success, earned him attention from Nashville publishers & managers, and opened the door to cowrites with the likes of Dave Barnes, Drew Holcomb, Jeff Pardo, Matt Wertz, Jeff Cohen, Ben Shive, and many others.
It’s the return of Lynchburg’s Most Dynamic Open Mic Scene!
Nas and Ms. Lauryn Hill penned this immortal track from the early 1990s, inspiring an entire generation of hip-hop fans to “imagine that”. Here at The Listening, we invite you to do the same behind the mic!
If the world was yours, what would you do?
Maybe you’d take a crack at bullying. Or eradicating all student loan debt. Or maybe you have an amazing idea on the next best thing since sliced bread? The stage is open for all poets, singers, dancers and thespians - you know how we do!
The sign-ups for the open mic start at 7:45p, when doors open, and your $5 donation helps support The Listening’s programming and activities! Don’t forget about Backline Coffee, providing a full espresso menu, fresh lemonades (we really like the lavender lemonade), and iced teas with fruit-infused options and kombucha on tap! #supportlocal

Like a good shot of its namesake, Strong Water is smooth with a bite, garnering inspiration from artists like The Head and the Heart, Mumford and Sons, and The Lone Bellow, yet remaining unafraid to break the conventions of the Americana Folk genre with a pulsing drum beat or a reggae breakdown.
Strong Water graduated from the term “college band” after releasing an EP in 2014 that received overwhelming support from Harrisonburg, Virginia’s thriving underground music community. In 2016, they responded with a 14 track self-titled album and began touring the Mid Atlantic, gaining attention from larger venues and artists, all while holding down full-time jobs.
In October 2017, Strong Water released their single, “Bearfoot,” before taking almost a year off the road as three band members got hitched. Since the release of their second LP Bearfoot in September 2018, Strong Water has been garnering national and international attention—from independent radio stations to tastemakers and periodicals such as EartotheGround, Relix Magazine, AmericanaUK. Life remains full of unknowns, but one thing is certain: Strong Water is holding nothing back in 2019.
With a mind overflowing with thoughts and questions, and a heart and soul dedicated to music and his own self discovery, Aaron James is an ever-evolving, indie/folk artist based in Memphis, Tennessee.
With over half a million Spotify streams to his name, and a year and a half of national touring under his belt, Aaron James strives to be human; flawed, transparent, and vulnerable. Aaron’s music is the byproduct of a desperate search into himself, because while it's a restless journey, he hopes at the end of that tunnel of self-understanding, will also be a sense of belonging. Being a part of the Memphis based creative company and record label “Unapologetic”, Aaron James aims to represent the universal and never-ending journey of finding yourself and being unapologetically you.
We are The Felons. Psychograss from the Appalachains.
MOTHERFOLK HAS BEEN REVERED AS "THE BEST BAND EVER" BY ALMOST ALL OF ITS CURRENT MEMBERS. WHAT STARTED IN 2014 AS A WRITING PROJECT BETWEEN TWO COLLEGE FRIENDS HAS GROWN INTO A PHENOMENON THAT HAS CAPTURED THE HEARTS AND SOULS OF DOZENS OF PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD. WITH TWO FULL LENGTHS AND A FEW SINGLES UNDER THEIR BELT, MOTHERFOLK HAS TOURED HEAVILY ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND HAS MADE A NAME FOR THEMSELVES WITH THEIR HIGH-ENERGY PERFORMANCE. CURRENTLY IN 2018, THEY CONTINUE TO TOUR REGULARLY AND ARE SPENDING THE TIME IN BETWEEN IN THE STUDIO WORKING ON WHAT'S NEXT. DON'T SLEEP ON THIS BAND, SLEEP ON A BED.
Wylder writes rhythmic, haunting and lyrically-driven indie-folk with a penchant for
strange, foreboding storytelling about family and loss.
First formed in Virginia by singer/guitarist Will McCarry, the group quickly grew to
include Lonnie Southall (guitar/mandolin), Mike Pingley (drums), and Jackson Wright
(bass/piano). Wylder’s unique blend of indie-rock and chamber-folk combines the spirit
of alternative rock giants like Arcade Fire and The Shins with the intimate, harmony-
laden sounds of Fleet Foxes and Radical Face.
Their debut album, Rain and Laura, was released in April of 2016, and was met with
enthusiastic reviews from fans and critics alike. They are currently in the midst of
recording their next full-length album.

If you haven't heard it yet, let us be the first to say: nobody is perfect.
We all fall short sometimes. We miss the mark, and it’s in those times that we tend to be our own worst critic. Our shortcomings shouldn't take away from our potential or our creativity. Even within our own little Listening community, we are made up of people that mess up.
It's okay. We want to hear about you and all your imperfection.
Inspired by Pink's smash hit from 2010, we invite you out to Speakertree with your music, your voice, your passion. Come be (im)perfect with us.
Come out to our Love Heals concert to support Noah and Jena Felton on their journey with cancer!

Milkk live at Speakertree.
MILKK is the indie-pop brainchild of Nashville singer/songwriter Pat Kiloran, Minneapolis producer/musician Jack Vondrachek, and touring/session drummer John Ogelby.
After going public on social media at the beginning of April 2017, MILKK made an unexpectedly quick and remarkably large splash in the indie-pop scene, connecting almost instantly with a wide array of die-hard fans through the internet.
Throughout the second half of 2017, without even playing a show, MILKK consistently and rapidly grew their presence on social media, sold out several runs of online merch, and signed with Nashville-based label Good Time Records. MILKK played their buzzing debut show in Nashville, TN in April 2018.
MILKK's debut EP "Sad Girls" released on March 28th, 2018 to high praise from fans and press alike. Not ones to slow down, MILKK is preparing to release their follow-up EP "If You're Reading This, I Love You" in June 2018.
With the quirkiness, lackadaisically, and slamming hooks often found in pop music, yet still possessing something all their own, MILKK is bound to be every music fan's next obsession.

Take a journey back in time to the life and music of "The Man in Black" performed by Cash Unchained. The band has been nationally sought after while touring all over the U.S., bringing the sights and sounds of the legendary Johnny Cash.
Johnny Cash may not have been the greatest singer or musical technician, but his sound was unforgettable. Steady like a train, sharp like a razor, with the perfect blend of country, rock 'n' roll, and folk music, Cash paved the way for artists of all genres for years to come. Without Johnny Cash, we wouldn't have some of the finest music we've all enjoyed over the past 6 decades. Performed by some of the finest musicians in the state of Virginia, James Tamelcoff III captures Cash's trademark baritone voice, while his band delivers the infectious, driving rhythm of the Tennessee Three.
